Watch a Sunset

There is a reason that the locals of Madison rave about the Lake Mendota sunsets — it is something to behold! The surrounding area contains many public picnic areas and park benches that are perfect spots from which to watch the sun set. Bring along your camera, because you are going to want to capture the sun just as it sets into the waterline. Also pack your own picnic items, or grab carry out from the nearby Mid Town Pub or The Old Fashioned restaurant.

Fishing

Lake Mendota is also a popular local fishing spot. Some of the fish you will find in this large lake include crappie, walleye, bass, and bluegill. You can try your skill fishing off one of the public docks, or you can sign up for a fishing charter. Because Lake Mendota attracts many visitors each year, there are many delicious restaurants nearby worth trying. They can deliver your meal right to your boat, or you can tie your boat up at one of the piers and enjoy a waterside patio meal. They serve a menu of upscale sandwiches and burgers.

Another great option, also located right on the lake, is The Mariner’s Inn. From their spacious patio you can catch the famous sunset on the lake, while enjoying some of the best steak dishes in the entire area. If you need a break from the heat, be sure to check out the indoor dining room which is decorated with unique antiques. The Mariner’s Inn also hosts sunset dinner cruises.
